Artist Statement:

Welcome to my Realm, Catherine's Realm. I am Catherine A. Henry, artist and gardener. I am fascinated by the detail and intricacy of the natural world. I have created a sanctuary, of sorts, in my garden; where I can nurture and learn, all the time observing and recording the experience.

My artistic subjects are most often very close to home, if not in a geographic sense, at least in an emotional one. I record what I care about. My artistic goal, now, is to explore the elements of form and texture, light and reflection on natural subjects and common place objects that might normally be taken for granted.

Several of my pieces have been included recently in shows and even won top honors.

Photography is becoming more than a means of documenting my other interests. Because of this I have started a couple of websites of art/photography and baseball photos from my son's high school. There are links to these sites on the left, as well.

My training:

I have been creating art of some kind all my life. I took private art lessons throughout adolescence. My instruction covered the basics of composition, perspective, drawing and watercolor skills. I attended Atlanta School of Art and Georgia State University where my studies emphasized drawing, ceramics, (fiber) weaving, and (metal work) jewelry making. My passion has always been drawing.

My art work experience:

I spent years doing art production/paste-up, illustration and typesetting.

My horticultural training and experience:

I am self-taught. I have worked, mostly part-time, at a growing nursery, off and on for many years. My library of horticultural, gardening books is impressive, however, and I do my homework.
